The CLASSIX Catalog
Welcome to the CLASSIX catalog!
Here you will find plays, playwrights and writings about philosophies on art-making by Black artists whose work has sculpted the world we live in today.
This is a living document. We will be adding plays and playwrights in the weeks and months to come. For updates on new additions please join our mailing list here.
We are standing on the shoulders of so many brilliant artists, writers and scholars whose work to preserve Black performance history is echoed throughout this database. Please visit our bibliography of some of the major anthologies we’ve referenced in addition to other inspirations.
While most of the material you’ll see here is linked to free resources, please note that a number of the plays are available through Alexander Street which does require a subscription. Students and professors may be able to access this resource through their educational institution. Items that require a subscription are noted with an asterisk (*).
This catalog would not be possible without the tireless and incredible research and dramaturgy team: CLASSIX, Taylor Barfield, Victoria Davidjohn, Mashonica Evans, Zoey Martinson, Nia R. Robinson, Jillian Walker, Melonnie Walker, Alexis Michaela Williams. Please note, when there is no source noted for a play summary, it was written by a member of the team.
Please contact us if you have any questions.
Enjoy!
